Is Elliot Rodger a further argument to support gun control in the USA?

The following is an excercise in blogging for a class in Journalism (L3C3) May 28, 2014.  The goal is to review the facts and events leading up to the unfortunate circumstances of May 23, 2014, and to open a discussion by stakeholders examining the issue of gun control in the US.

Youtube is a open community where People can say and do whatever they want. We dont Support gun control but we cant forbid it. Our Job is it to warn our users from the Content and tell them that the Video cant be shown for younger or sensitive Viewers.elliot rodger is a sad example but still an exception. We do our best to teach our users to live in peace and harmony.

    1. I agree. You're right. Actually everyone can say and do whatever they like to on youtube. BUT when you watch several videos you will realize that many videos by youtuber are full of violence and something. And that's okay. Nobody's upset about this. But a video which content has a little bit too much of naked skin would be blocked. But violence and guns, shootings, explosions and blood are OK. How can youtube be for harder rules for gun control if they accept so much violence?

      Dear Mr. Youtube,
I think our positions are very comparable. We have an public order and can't forbid people to do the things they do, or what they do in in the internet, or if they support gun control or not. I think the best thing we can do is to show the public what can happen, so that they can learn what is right and wrong and build their own position towards an issue.

    3. Youre right Anonymous. Naked people is a huge shocker in the american society. We do our best to change this but i think the american government have to do the first step

    4. But, Mr. Youtube, how can you explain, why sex is blocked and violence, guns and shooters are OK?
That's not combatible with your statement for harder gun controls, I think.

The opinion of USA today is, that the rules of gun control have to be make harder, especially for the age when you can carry one. We think it is sad to report about these tragedies, but we have to do, to inform the public about what’s going on. We see it as our duty to report about the whole issue, that we report more about guns, gun control, and so on: To give our readers an objective view about the whole case.

      Dear Mr. Youtube,
I'm sorry how you feel about our reporting. We don't hurt the feelings of the victims, we report objective about waht had happened. I think to "inform them not to kill people" is naturally. Why should we say this? This is not new. This is a law! And how I said before: We see it as our duty to report about the whole issue. And our way to report is the right way.

  3. The government should not confiscate all guns in order to end gun violence. It would be compereable to confiscating cars in order to end car accidents and the linked vehicular deaths. But I think we should regulate gun use, as well as we have regulations for cars and streets. We all know the mantra "Guns don't kill people, people kill people", which is true. But guns sure do make it a lot easier for sinful people to kill people.

  4. Dear Sirs,
the National Rifle Association fights for the right to keep and bear firearms according the 2nd ammendment of the US constitution. This should apply to any US citizen reagrdless the age, race of the bearer.
Such accidents are just happening and we should remember that it is not the gun who kills people but the finger who pulls the trigger.

    1. The 2nd Amendment was written in1791 when there were far fewer citizens in the USA and when we had overall far fewer laws and rules to live by. The US was almost a lawless state then. In 2014, we live in a very complicated world with a growing population. Those who follow a law written in 1791, show their own primitive view of civilization. Laws reflect a culture and are written and rewritten by society to reflect current issues. People agree to follow the laws written to avoid the chaos that inadvertently occur when many different people live together. It is time to rewrite the laws to reduce the chaos prevalent in this country.

  5. We would wish to thank all the people who poured out their comments and wishes to the Rodgers family after this unfortunate incident. Although we understand your well-wishes, you cannot possibly imagine how painful this has been to our family and to the families of the other victims involved. Under no circumstances however, do we condone or support the availablity or use of firearms in any form. Guns kill people, knives kill people, hammers and hands kill people. We do not suggest that no hammer should be sold, but we do suggest that guns are only produced to kill whereas hammers are produced to build. All weapons for violence should be removed from all societies, permanently. We do not suggest that if there was no possibility for our son to buy a gun, he would not have killed anyone. His behavior certainly indicated he was intent on violence. But it would not have been so easy. We are devastated. The Rodgers Family.

  6. Dear Rodgers family,
first of all I would like you to know that the lord forgives you and your son if your regrets are sincere. As a christian, I invite you to join our church to handle this difficult time you are going through.
I don't think that a general weapon prohibition is the solution, but we should regulate gun purchase and reinstitute the ban on assault weapons.
Also I think we should have more conversation about mental illness, as well as education and poverty, because thats where the real problem lies at.

    1. Dear I love Jesus,
We shuld definately discus mental illness. We should discuss that the rise of mental illness in this country is directly correlated with the rise of organized religious evangelism, the rise of internet activity such as youtube, the rise of violence in the media and in video games, and linked to the strength of those whose voices support the NRA. We are a wealthy nation, but we are also a divided nation. Our poor are very poor and getting poorer. Organized religion seeks to control and depress an individual's progress and self-improvement. As religious groups grow in power, we remain spiritually poor as a nation. Outlawing all guns is the kindest, most humane and most god-loving act a Christian could support.

    2. Dear Rodgers family,
I am talking to you both as Christian and American. I support the Second Amendment of our constitution. Americans shouldn't have their Constitutionals rights stripped. It's about freedom. In America, the most affected by gun violence are the ones that we as Christians should serve, the poor, the abused and the young. And therefor we should consider gun control without quitting freedom.
      Faithfully yours
