2-Day Interactive Workshop: CV (Curriculum Vitae-Resume), Cover Letter and Social Media Positioning IN ENGLISH!

Here's a description of the training course coming up in June..

Saturday (One) - June 11th
Warm-up and 'get to know each other' period. This will be essential since in teams, we will use each other's considerable professional experience to support our own development.
Clarifying Who You Are: Describing your skills, defining your work experience. We will learn to synthesize the explanation of what we can do in general and what we do best.
Analysis of the Company, the Position and how the firm is marketing their Candidate Search: Jobs you are seeking and qualify for may be similar but they are posted in various ways. We'll look at how to profile a firm by researching their market and activities and learn to 'read between the lines' to find out as much as possible about who they really want to attract.
The CV Layout and the Importance of the Cover Letter: Use the narrow window of opportunity available to relay the most important information. We'll concentrate on getting your most important message written "above the fold". And, we'll see about making your Cover Letter 'sexy'. :)
Exploring the power of Graphics: Using Slides in a PowerPoint Presentation. This is the use of Social Media to spread your name and profile as widely as possible.
..and you even get Homework!
Create your CV, Cover Letter and PowerPoint Slide Presentation. Researching your firm. Due Saturday June 18th.

Saturday (Two) - June 18th
• Fine-Tuning your tools: We will review the CV and Cover Letter and we'll see the Slides that you have created. Feedback will be used for you to hear how your message is getting across.
• Job Interviews conducted. You'll practice selling yourself using your new tools.

Methods
We'll use a combination of PowerPoint Presentations, role plays, face-to-face consultation, your own submitted work and the exchange of our collective experience.
We'll have a private room at The Mein Arbeitstraum Business Center. http://www.mein-arbeitstraum.de/. The Center is located at Freibadstr. 30 in 81543 München-Untergiesing. It is a comfortable and intimate setting with full business and technical support as well as kitchen facilities.

The Case for Diversity and Inclusion in Germany: Immigrant Challenges

Generally, Germans don't mince words. Often the bane of communication conflicts and dead deals with other cultures, they simply say what they mean, directly and succinctly. It is not a question of rudeness (and they'd look puzzled if you told them they were), it's a matter of efficiency.
Chancellor Merkel's recent comments about the "utter failure of multiculturalism" in Germany came as no surprise to anyone here since she was simply stating the obvious. The international shock probably had more to do with the fact that a) she clearly stated a truth in a most politically incorrect way and, b) did not claim that "the other party's program" was a complete failure but used the inclusive "we failed".
The local shock was hearing about the death of a program that never existed.

Life; Live and Virtual Versions

A few days ago while taking a stage to deliver a speech, TV personality Bill Nye collapsed before reaching the podium. Unconscious for a few moments, it was the audience's reaction that seemed to garner the most news.
Blog posts flew reporting the "bizarre" activity of the University of Southern California students gathered to hear him. It seems that instead of rushing onstage to assist, they whipped out their iPhones and began to tweet and record the incident.
Outrage and disbelief exploded in the report of this story,

Sprechen Sie Human?

Ellen Pabst von Ohain

When we speak about communication these days, one assumes we are referring to some kind of computer software that facilitates the relay of information from one program to another. We could be referring to the interfacing between processes, the techniques of journalism or the use of spoken language.
If you are under 25, the term "communication" means marketing, graphic design, social networking. Asia and its anime may pop into mind. Considering the medium age across Asia hovers around 24 years old compared to Europe's old 40, the future of communication can be tracked from here to there. Are you 50 or older? You may be thinking about how your boss speaks to you or how you speak to your spouse. The point is, it does depend on who you are asking. Communication is a wide open field and takes many forms.

How Miley Communicates

Early June 2010, Miley Cyrus was passing through Germany promoting her new movie 'The Last Song'. I was passing by my TV at the moment this information was being broadcast from a VIP entertainment show. Accompanying this news was a clip of Ms. Cyrus, seated, and fully absorbed in her cell phone, texting. An off-camera voice asked her a question I was unable to hear. "Yes, that's right", she smiled and answered, eyes on her cell. The off-camera voice asked her another question and she looked up sharply and focused on her interlocutor.
